Environmental Impacts

Eye-safe Animal Detection

Led by Anni Vuorenkoski Dalgleish, Ph.D.
Affiliated Home Campus: Harbor Branch
Affiliated Department: Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute

PROJECT

Katie worked with Dr. Anni Vuorenkoski Dalgleish and her team on their underwater LiDAR imaging device. The Unobtrusive Multi-static LiDAR Imager (UMSLI) was designed to monitor marine animal behavior around Marine Hydrokinetic (MHK) sites to ensure that MHK devices are not negatively impacting their surroundings. Katie worked on the development of software that will allow the system to automatically classify the marine life it observes. She designed a MATLAB program to generate visual output from UMSLI field test data. She also worked with University of Florida graduate student Chris Ding to test various object recognition algorithms.
