OUTREACH SERVICES

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) reaches out to the university community through its psycho-educational programming for students, faculty, staff, and other outside professionals.   The goals of our outreach efforts are to decrease stigma associated with mental health struggles, increase knowledge and skills, create opportunities for new and realistic behavior, foster interpersonal and intrapersonal relationships, and encourage an overall healthier psychological functioning.

Throughout the year, the staff at CAPS design and implement events in which students can participate at no cost. These events often include screenings for depression, anxiety, body-image, and general mental health, along with games and activities that are consistent with our mission. All of these screenings are facilitated by trained mental health professionals that assist with the provision of confidential recommendations and feedback. In addition, we participate in events coordinated by other campus offices or organizations at their request.

The staff at CAPS is also able to provide workshops, presentations, and trainings according to the needs of a particular group, class, or faculty member. All of our programs can be hosted inside, as well as outside our center.

Examples of these workshops include:

  • Understanding and Managing Anxiety and Stress
  • Understanding and Managing Test Anxiety
  • Suicide Awareness and Education
  • Mindfulness
  • Understanding and Managing Depression
  • Understanding and Reducing Mental Health Stigma
  • Improving Sleep Hygiene
  • Recognizing and Supporting Students in Distress
